Discussion:
Fire danger remains elevated today even though the winds won’t be quite as strong. Low humidity will keep the fire danger elevated through Saturday. The Black Cove Complex fire in Polk and Henderson counties is now a top priority wildfire incident in the nation with over 6,200 acres burned total. The Table Rock and Persimmon RidgeFires have grown rapidly to a totals of 6000 acres as well with 4556 acres burned within Table Rock alone. Air Quality Alerts are in place across western Carolinas with a code purple for Transylvania Co today.
Temperatures will stay above normal through the weekend going from near 70 today to near 80 by tomorrow. Rain finally arrives Sunday with widespread showers and a few storms possible. Potential for strong to severe storms Monday. Timing will make all the difference here but right now main severe threats look like damaging gusts and isolated tornadoes as well as small hail. Dry weather returns Tuesday with a mild forecast through midweek next week.
