Troopers Release Identities Of Four People Killed In Union County Wreck
UNION COUNTY, NC – A road in Union County is back open after a wreck that killed four people. It happened near the intersection of Lancaster Hwy and Nesbit Road.
Troopers say the victims were killed after a woman driving pulled out in front of a tractor-trailer Monday afternoon.
The driver has been identified as 68-year-old Dale Kennedy of Canaan, New Hampshire. She and her passengers, 68-year-old June Allen, 27-year-old Michael Allen and 36-year-old Jesse Winters all died at the scene.
“Looked pretty bad, whole side of the car is out,” said neighbor Marilena Hearn.
Troopers say the victims are from New Hampshire and were renting the car involved in the crash.
“She ran right out in front of the 18-wheeler.. 18-wheeler tried to slam on the brakes. But it was just too late,” explains Trooper J.D. Kitchens, with North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The driver of the tractor trailer wasn’t hurt.
Hearn hopes people will pay closer attention.
“Being more aware, you know, of the traffic pattern around you and stuff like that, and your life can be taken in an instant,” she says.
Troopers say speed was not a factor in the crash.
