CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD Officer Wes Kerrick will go on trial for the shooting death of Jonathan Ferrell in less than two weeks.

CMPD is teaming with local barbers to continue an initiative aimed at keeping things calm during a contentious time.  The two groups are taking their Cops And Barbers initiative to Freedom Park for an Arms Around Charlotte Unity Rally.

“We came up with the idea of taking it to the park.  Most people say take it to the street, but we’re going to take it to the park,” said Gary McFadden of CMPD.

“We want to engage from all different aspects from the community, said NC Local Barbers Association President Gene Winchester.  “And we want everybody to come out; all the different organizations to join in, in peace.”

The Arms Around Charlotte Unity Rally is Sunday afternoon at the Freedom Park Bandshell.  It’s from 3pm – 5pm.

Jury selection in Officer Kerrick’s criminal trial is set to begin on July 20th.  You can count on the WCCB Charlotte Trial Team for continuing coverage.  Look for updates on air and online.
