CHARLOTTE, NC —Β Drivers in northwest Charlotte will soon get a little relief from congestion. Β The state has awarded a $4.8 million contract to finish the I-485 interchange at Oakdale Road near Mount Holly Road. Β

The ramps were left unfinished during the initial I-485 construction, with the original plan being to wait for development in the area, but that never happened.

“There’s a lot of traffic now; it’ll probably get worse,” said northwest Charlotte resident Billy Greer. Β “But it needs to be fixed. Β They should have fixed it when they built the road to start with.”

Construction could start as soon as July 27th. Β The project includes roundabouts on Oakdale Road. Β The work should be completed by November 2016.
