Showers and storms linger into Friday, cool & comfy weekend

Another round of cooler, drier air arrives behind the rain in time for the weekend.

Overcast skies have returned this Thursday afternoon ahead of tonight’s rain. Scattered showers and storms will continue off-and-on throughout the overnight hours into our final day of the workweek. While Friday won’t be a washout, it’ll be far from the stunning day we saw on Wednesday. A low-end severe threat will close out the workweek for areas east of the Metro; we’re mainly watching for heavy, gusty storms that may produce some small hail. Any leftover moisture clears out overnight, although a few snow showers may find their way into the High Country Saturday morning.

We’ll start out the weekend with a few clouds, especially north of the Metro, but abundant sunshine returns by Saturday afternoon. Despite the bright skies, highs will struggle to clear 50° in the High Country and 60° in the Piedmont and Foothills as stiff northerly winds flow into the Carolinas. A very stray shower is possible in the Piedmont overnight Saturday into Sunday, but most communities will remain dry through the weekend. Sunday looks absolutely gorgeous – highs will soar near 70° around the Metro as blue skies prevail into April’s third week. Temperatures make another jump into the 70s and 80s across the board on Monday before more rain chances and cooler air arrive by midweek.
