A cold front will sweep through the area Tuesday, bringing strong northwest winds to the region. Sustained winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph will be possible for highest elevations across the Carolinas. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory today through 8 a.m. Wednesday for the following counties within the WCCB viewing area are under the advisory: Ashe, Avery, Watuaga and the Greater Mountains of Burke and Caldwell counties.

The gusty winds could make travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Strong winds could also move unsecured objects and bring down tree limbs causing isolated power outages. It is important to remain cautious while traveling and secure any loose objects.

The strongest wind will peak this afternoon. But, winds will likely remain gusty through Tuesday night, before quieting Wednesday morning. Temperatures will also plummet tonight as clouds clear with lows plummeting into the 30s across the mountains, but it will feel more like the 20s with the wind chill.
