CATAWBA CO., NC – A judge sentenced a man convicted of drug trafficking in Catawba County to at least 57 years in prison.

Deputies arrested Maynor Javier Yanes Basquez after a chase in October of 2022.  At the time, deputies say they seized 938 grams of Fentanyl and 574 grams of Methamphetamine from Basquez

The Long View resident was convicted on April 10, 2025 for three counts of trafficking narcotics, fleeing to elude arrest and maintaining a vehicle for
the purposes of distributing controlled substances.

Basquez has also been sentenced to at least 63 years in prison for attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling in McDowell County.
