According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), 2024 marked the U.S.’s fourth hottest summer, and this trend is likely to continue. North Carolina is no exception from this heat, and many will be looking for ways to beat the oncoming unbearable warmth.

As the summer warms up, Charlotte offers plenty of refreshing spots for a swim or a cookout. Whether you’re seeking natural quarries, scenic lakes, or family-friendly pools, WCCB has you covered. 1. The Quarry at Carrigan Farms – Mooresville, NC ($$$)

Spraygrounds in Mecklenburg

Find a place for you and your family to escape from the summer heat at one of our spraygrounds. Each sprayground has been constructed with water features that you can run through, jump in or just enjoy. Spraygrounds officially open Saturday, May 24, 2025. These amenities are open from Saturday, May 24 – Labor Day, Sept. 1, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily.
