The man who is accused of killing nine people in a South Carolina church last month should not have been able to buy a gun. That’s according to FBI Director James Comey.
He says a background check on Dylann Roof failed in part due to a breakdown in paperwork between police departments and counties. Comey says the failure “rips all our hearts out”.
Police say Roof told investigators he attacked a historically black church in Charleston in order to start a race war.
