NOVE MESTO, Czech Republic (AP) — Laura Dahlmeier won a women’s 7.5-kilometer sprint for her first biathlon World Cup victory on Saturday to lead a 1-2 German finish.
Dahlmeier shot cleanly to cover the distance in 21 minutes, 33.4 seconds to beat teammate Franziska Hildebrand by 1 second.
Dahlmeier said “it’s amazing for me. It’s fun to race here.”
Veronika Vitkova of the Czech Republic overcame a penalty lap to claim third place, 13.9 back while Darya Domracheva of Belarus was fourth after missing twice.
Overall World Cup leader Kaisa Makarainen of Finland missed three targets to finish seventh.
Makarainen leads the standings with 696 points while Domracheva is second, 33 points behind.
The men’s sprint is scheduled for later Saturday.
