MORGANTON, NC — Deputies have arrested 38-year-old David Burleson, who was wanted for a shooting early Wednesday evening.
Burleson was arrested around 12:25pm Thursday after deputies received tips saying he was located at a home on Hawkins Drive. When deputies arrived, officials say Burleson was outside and tried to run. Burleson was taken to Blue Ridge HealthCare Morganton after deputies say they noticed a powdery substance in his mouth.
Burleson is being evaluated, according to deputies, for possibly ingesting controlled substances. Officials say warrants will be served on Burleson when he is release from the hospital.
Deputies say Burleson shot 51-year-old Scotty Vess around 6pm on Denton’s Chapel Church Road. Vess was taken to Blue Ridge HealthCare Morganton and then airlifted to Charlotte where he is reportedly “doing okay” and could soon be released.
Burleson faces charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent To Kill.
