CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gaming is one of the most popular hobbies amongst households and with the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch 2, a new age of handheld consoles is here.
To celebrate the release, Vegas Insider analyzed various consoles throughout the year to show which ones were the favorites across the country.
Using Google Keyword Planner and searching each console over the past 12 months, the average monthly search volume was used to determine the most popular gaming console.
When it came to the state of North Carolina specifically, the PlayStation 5 was by far the most popular console with a huge 93,600 average search volume for the latest generation of console in the series, going with the general trend for America.
Ranking second was the PlayStation rival in the shape of the Xbox Series X, still popular amongst the state with an average monthly search volume of 66,200.
Rounding off the top 3 was the original Nintendo Switch (60,500) which still has a rising popularity despite the next generation of the handheld console on its way.

At the other end of the scale, PlayStation VR was the least popular gaming console with just an average monthly search volume of 1,000.
