Third Teen Charged in Connection with Zachary Finch Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the CMPD’s Homicide Unit have charged a third suspect, Demonte McCain, with the murder of Zachary Joseph Finch.

Finch, 21, was killed back in June om the 2300 block of Farmer Street. He was reportedly in the area to buy an upgraded iPhone and used an app where he thought he was meeting the seller.

Police arrested two 15-year-olds back in July in connection with the shooting.

Information and evidence gathered by Homicide Detectives during the course of the investigation led them in identifying McCain as a suspect in this case.  McCain was interviewed by Homicide Detectives and following the interview, McCain was arrested and charged with Murder, Attempted Robbery with Dangerous Weapon, and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with Dangerous Weapon.  McCain was transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
