One dead, 11 hurt in Catawba County mass shooting

HICKORY, N.C. – One person is dead and nearly a dozen more are injured from a mass shooting in Hickory early Sunday morning, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 12:45 a.m., authorities responded to a report of multiple people shot at a residence on Walnut Acres Drive, located in the Mountain View community in southwest Catawba County.

Deputies said 12 total victims have been reported, one of whom is dead, another is in critical condition, and several others are hospitalized.

The deceased victim has been identified as 58-year-old Shawn Patrick Hood of Lenoir, North Carolina.

No arrests have been made at this time.
