CATS and community to participate in Rail Safety Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CATS has announced its participation in Rail Safety Week this year, taking place June 16-22. This initiative, which aims to create awareness about rail safety and preventing accidents around railways and track crossings, aligns with CATS’ commitment to ensuring the safety of our riders and the community.

We invite residents, riders and the community at large to participate in Rail Safety Week events and engage with CATS’ social media channels for valuable safety tips, updates and opportunities for engagement.

  • Tuesday: Operation Clear Tracks
    • CATS will be highlighting our system security personnel and procedures.
  • Wednesday: Crossing Safety
    • CATS staff will be educating the public on how to safely approach, cross and navigate rail intersections with an emphasis on reporting safety concerns in the CATS-Pass app!
  • Thursday: Transit Rail Safety
    • CATS will be encouraging responsible rider behavior on light rail trains and celebrating safety heroes.
  • Friday: RED OUT!

Rail safety is a collective responsibility; our riders, employees, operators, pedestrians and anyone who frequents a roadway or pedestrian way near rail tracks each have a responsibility to keep each other safe. According to recent statistics, many accidents at railroad crossings are preventable through increased awareness and adherence to safety guidelines, which supports the action of sustained community outreach around rail safety.
