As Storm Cleanup Continues, Caldwell County Warns Residents About Scammers

CALDWELL COUNTY, NC — County officials are warning residents to be on the lookout for scammers as the area continues cleanup following Monday’s storms.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office says scammers are approaching residents throughout the Grace Chapel area. One incident involved a scammer telling an elderly couple in the North Lakes Community that they would be fined by the county if debris wasn’t out of their driveway in two days, according to officials.

Officials say other scammers are approaching residents about removing debris and then disappearing with the money. The sheriff’s office reminds residents to never pay for work hired out up front, and to always make sure the workers have proof of insurance and are bonded.

The National Weather Service surveyed damages throughout the county and says their preliminary findings show tornadic activity around the lake and in the Grace Chapel Road area surrounded by straight line winds Monday evening. A final determination is expected in the next few days.
