Storm Water Services unveils first sidewalk mural

A new mural is blending art and environmental education in west Charlotte.

Storm Water Services unveiled the 80-foot sidewalk mural on Friday. It’s along Beatties Ford Road near the Rosa Parks Place Community Transit Center.

Jamil Dyair Steele designed it. Steele says it’s supposed to educate the public about how pollutants make it from the streets to our streams.

“Charlotte, my home is our home, and we all are tasked with keeping it clean. I want people to see this visual reminder that, ‘hey, it’s all of our responsibility to keep it clean.’”

Storm Water Services hopes the mural will spark conversation and that people will stop and think about how their everyday actions make a difference for our waterways.
