Husband Charged With Murder After Lancaster Woman Found Dead Sunday

The Latest

Police have charged 49-year-old Matthew Alman with the murder of his wife, Mildred Arnold.

According to investigators, Alman provided false information to family members regarding Arnold’s whereabouts and activities leading up to her death. Police had previously charged Alman with an unrelated offense during the investigations, officials say, and noticed a possible blood stain on his clothes during booking.

After searching the home where Arnold’s body was found, detectives found a pair of boots believed to be Alman’s that were also stained with blood. A framing hammer was also found at the home that is believed to have been the murder weapon.

After reviewing the evidence, officials say a Municipal Judge charged Alman with his wife’s murder. Alman has since been denied bond and remains in jail.

LANCASTER, SC – Lancaster Police have now identified a woman killed in the city’s most recent homicide.

Investigators say 58-year-old Mildred Burris Arnold was found dead in her home on South York Street, near downtown.

They say Arnold’s daughter discovered the body.

The Lancaster Police Chief says it’s too early in the investigation to give out many other details.

Neighbors say they know the family that lives at the home and say it’s very upsetting.

“It’s just a sad day for their family. I hope their family gets better from this,” says neighbor Scott Hunter.

The chief says they are not looking for any suspects at this time.

We’re asking police if that means they already have someone in custody.
