UPDATE: Police released the name of the man who drowned Sunday in the Catawba River. Β Officials say 20-year-old Terry Stephens Jr. of Dallas walked into the water and went under a short time later. Β
Witnesses say bystanders and kayakers attempted to help him but they were unsuccessful. Β The drowning has been ruled an accident.
BELMONT, N.C.– Officials say the body of a missing swimmer has been recovered tonight in the Catawba River.
Officials say that the swimmer entered the Catawba River from the Mt. Holly side and was an adult male.
Details surrounding how the drowning occurred or the identity of the victim have not been released at this time.Β
