MONROE, NC – A suspected drug dealer is in jail charged in connection to the overdose death of a man in Monroe.
Police arrested 52-year-old Fredrick Bivens on Saturday.
Investigators believe he supplied drugs to 39-year-old Jerry Deese, who overdosed at a home on Broome Street in March.
Bivens is charged with death by distribution and is being held in the Union County Detention Center under a $1 million bond.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Jerry Deese,” said Chief Rhett Bolen. “Let this case serve as a clear message: if you distribute deadly drugs in our community, you will be held accountable. My department remains fully committed to aggressively pursuing those who profit from narcotics and ensuring they face the consequences of their actions.”
Monroe Police say the arrest underscores the department’s continued commitment to combat the opioid crisis and hold drug distributors criminally responsible when their actions result in loss of life.
