116th annual NAACP National Convention underway in Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, NC — Arts, fashion, and important conversations. It’s just a part of what’s on tap for this year’s NAACP National Convention being held this year in Charlotte.
The 116th year for the convention is being held at the Charlotte Convention Center. This year’s theme is called ‘The Fierce Urgency Of Now’,
It’s expected to bring thousands of people to the Queen City over the week long event. The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority it one of the most significant events on the Charlotte Convention Center’s 2025 calendar.
In a statement the CRVA says “As a major gathering with national impact, the convention will deliver a substantial boost to Charlotte’s visitor economy, supporting local hotels, restaurants, and hospitality workers”
Last month, NAACP leaders decided to not invite President Trump to the convention. It’s the first time in the organization’s history, leaders did not invite a sitting President.
Many of Friday’s events circled around the youth with events involving the arts.
The event goes through Wednesday, July 16th.
