North Carolina joins 23 other states to sue the Trump Administration over $7 billion in public education money
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – North Carolina is now one of 24 states suing the Trump administration, trying to unfreeze nearly $7 billion in public education cash. The states accuse The White House of unlawfully locking up funds that congress set aside to help low-income students, among others.
It’s the latest legal action this year between states and the federal government over Trump’s decisions to pause or take back federal aid.
In a letter, the Char-Meck Board of Education says CMS is owed $12 million of that cash and planned to use it to support the more than 141,000 students across the district. Local education officials say without that money, classrooms will be understaffed and CMS would have to take on $1 million per month in debt.
