Sheriff’s Office Offers Church Security Training

NEWTON, NC – The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is offering training sessions for church representatives in Catawba County interested in learning about church security. Trainings will be led by the Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Deputy.

Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid said, “This training has been available through the Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit for many years. Because of a community outpouring requesting church security training in the last week, we will be providing several training events over the next few months.”

Scheduled training sessions are as follows:

  • Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM: Maiden High School Auditorium, 600 W Main St., Maiden, NC
  • Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM: Christ Church, Mt. View Campus Sanctuary, 2416 Zion Church Rd., Hickory, NC
  • Tuesday, January 9, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM: Mt. Pleasant UMC Community Center, 4136 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Sherrills Ford, NC
  • Thursday, January 25, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM: Tri City Baptist Church Sanctuary, 1409 North Carolina Highway 16 North, Conover, NC

It is suggested that the church security team, greeters, ushers, or any other church leadership should attend the session.

Sheriff Reid said, “The goal of this training is to instruct places of worship regarding reasonable measures of safety when confronting a variety of threats and emergencies they may face during hours of worship.”
