CMPD Volunteer Officer Injured In Hit And Run To Undergo Surgery

CHARLOTTE, NC– On Monday, a Citizens On Patrol volunteer was directing traffic when he was struck by a vehicle.

The COPS officer identified as, William Schweppe, was wearing a reflective vest and utilizing a flashlight to direct traffic when a white 4 door sedan struck him and then fled the scene.

Schweppe received a serious but non-life threatening injury and was transported to CMC-Main.

William Schweppe remains hospitalized Tuesday morning and is expected to have surgery later today.

CMPD is asking anyone with information on the identify of the driver to call 911.
