CLAREMONT, N.C. – One person died and four others were injured in a crash on I-40 in Catawba County on Friday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
It happened around 7 p.m. on I-40 west near the rest area at mile marker 137.
Troopers said a Subaru Ascent and Honda HR-V were traveling west when the Subaru collided with the Honda in the left lane.
The Honda driver, 22-year-old Gabriella Cruz, died at the scene.
The Subaru driver, 41-year-old Tracie Arnold, sustained minor injuries. Three additional passengers were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
Troopers said impairment is not believed to be a contributing factor. Possible charges are pending upon further investigation, authorities said.
