CHARLOTTE, NC – A second suspect is now in custody charged in a deadly shooting at a bar in north Charlotte back in April.

CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested 20-year-old Noel Vasquez-Mercado on Tuesday.

He’s charged with first degree murder in the shooting of 23-year-old Javier Martinez Hernandez.

The shooting happened just after 6 a.m. on April 13th at Mi Cabana Bar and Billiards on Eastway Drive.

Police found Martinez Hernandez in the parking lot with several gunshot wounds.

Detectives identified the shooter as 22-year-old Jefry Gonzalez Artica.  Investigators arrested him in Jefferson Parrish, Louisiana on June 25th.

According to an affidavit, Gonzalez Artica told police he got the gun used in the deadly shooting from Vasquez-Mercado.

Detectives say surveillance video from inside the bar shows the men passing a gun back and forth before the shooting.

The affidavit also says video from another business shows Vasquez-Mercado leaving with the gun after the shooting.

Vasquez-Mercado is being held without bond in the Mecklenburg County Jail.
