Crews Working to Restore Power in Foothills
CALDWELL COUNTY, NC – Crews are working frantically to restore power in the foothills as dangerously cold temperatures set in.
Heavy, wet snow tore down trees and power lines. Caldwell County had the most trouble.
“We were just coming back home from a friends home and all the lights and everything were off and it was pretty cold,” explains Morganton resident Simon Zamora.
Blue Ridge Electric says heavy, wet snow is causing trees and large limbs to come crashing down on power lines.
More than 500 are without power in Caldwell County.
We’re told 61 different locations had damage, mostly in the southern part of the county. There are also some outages in Ashe, Avery, and Watagua counties.
But as crews restore power, new outages are occurring.
Meanwhile in the High Country, the big concern is the wind. Blue Ridge Electric warns that could cause even more power outages overnight.
Crews warn, if you see downed power lines, stay away.
