MONROE, NC – A boil water notice has been lifted for the majority of customers in the city of Monroe, after a potentially harmful bacteria was found during routine testing.
City officials say E. coli was found in a small section of the water system near the Monroe Fire Department station on Old Charlotte Highway.
Residents who are on city water were told to boil it before using it to drink, cook or brush teeth.
Around noon on Wednesday, the city said the boil water notice had been lifted for roughly 2/3rds of water customers in major sections of the City including Downtown and much of Monroe’s East and South-East communities.
The other roughly 1/3rd of customers remain under a boil water notice as more tests are completed.
Estimated completion is currently Friday afternoon.
