Deck the Floors: Matthews woman receives new flooring for Christmas from Watson Installations

Company plans annual "Deck the Floors" campaign to assist those in need

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – When Lillian Simpson contacted the Christmas Bureau to request help providing Christmas gifts to her grandchildren, she had no idea that an extra surprise was in store. Simpson, 84, resides in Matthews, where she is raising her two grandchildren on her own. Her only source of income is her Social Security benefits, so the household budget is tight. Since Simpson’s grandchildren came to live with her two years ago, they have been living on concrete floors.

Watson Installations is a local flooring company with two retail stores called “The Flooring Pros” in Matthews and Pineville. After hearing Simpson’s story, they knew they wanted to help. The company stepped in to provide Simpson with new flooring throughout her home at no charge.

The experience inspired Watson Installations to create an annual “Deck the Floors” campaign. The company plans to choose one local family each year to receive new flooring. In a statement, the company said “There are so many untold stories that truly exemplify what the meaning of Christmas is about.” The company hopes to shine a light on some of those stories through future “Deck the Floors” campaigns.
