CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is in custody after police say he stole a vehicle at gunpoint and led police on a chase Wednesday night.

According to the CMPD, a suspect approached a woman in the drive thru of the McDonald’s located at 2518 Beatties Ford Road and demanded her vehicle while pointing a gun at her.

The victim surrendered the vehicle and the suspect drove away.

CMPD officers located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop but the suspect refused and a chase began.

The suspect hit another vehicle at the intersection of Central Avenue and Rosehaven Drive but continued to elude police before coming to a stop at the QuikTrip convenience store located at the intersection of Central Avenue and Sharon Amity.

Three people ran from the car at that time, but were quickly detained after a foot chase.

The suspect, Gregory Fondren, 20, has been charged with Robbery.  The other two occupants have not been charged at this time.

Two BB Guns were found during the investigation.
