MIAMI, FL — The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season continues with Tropical Storm Lorenzo, which formed early Monday morning.
The twelfth named storm of the year is not a threat to the Carolinas nor the U.S. mainland as it swirls roughly 1,000 miles west of the Atlantic African coast. While Lorenzo does look impressive on satellite, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami forecasts the fledgling system to remain as a tropical storm through the remainder of its life as it turns northward over the coming days.
Lorenzo will jog northeast by the end of the week and could bring rough weather to the Azores and Europe as it transitions into an extratropical system. No other systems, named or unnamed, are currently being monitored by the NHC.
Lorenzo forms at a point where tropical activity historically drops off in the Atlantic. Keep in mind that hurricane season officially runs until November 30th; we’ll keep you weather-wise if the tropics start stirring again.
