Man arrested, accused of attempted kidnapping after breaking window at Chester County school
The Chester Park School Complex was put on lockdown Friday after a man crashed his car nearby and allegedly grabbed a student inside through a broken window.
It happened Friday afternoon around 12:15 p.m. when D’arrius Edwards crashed his car in a wooded area near Chester Park School of the Arts. Deputies said Edwards fled the vehicle after the crash and ran toward the school.
Deputies said Edwards went into the outside playground and then broke a classroom window and grabbed a student through the window.
The School Resource Officer deployed their taser on Edwards, the sheriff’s office said. The SRO and deputies detained him shortly after.
The sheriff’s office searched the rest of the school complex and did not find any other persons of concern.
The student is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said. The sheriff said that the student and the suspect did not know each other.
Edwards was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. He is facing charges for Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Burglary Second Degree Violent, and Kidnapping.
The incident remains under an active investigation.
