CHARLOTTE, NC — The man accused of robbing an east Charlotte convenience store early Monday morning has been arrested. Melvin Lorenzo Jones Jr., 40, is accused of robbing the Circle K on Albemarle Road at Point Lake Drive around 1am.
Police say he entered the businesses armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk was able to get the license plate number after investigators say Jones got the money and took off in his vehicle.
Officers quickly located the vehicle, but say Jones refused to stop when they tried to pull him over. The vehicle chase ended when Jones lost control of his vehicle on Idlewild Road and crashed.
Jones was arrested and charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Careless and Reckless Driving, Driving While License Revoked, and Operating a Motor Vehicle while Fleeing Law Enforcement.
