Snow Will Impact The Area Wednesday

Snow will begin to fall in Charlotte towards daybreak, it could begin as a brief period of light rain. Light to moderate snow is likely during the morning commute and will taper off during the early afternoon. Many communities in and around Charlotte will receive 2-4 inches of snow. Areas west and northwest of Charlotte (foothills and mountains) will see 1-2 inches, isolated 3″. Regardless of how much snow falls, the impacts will remain the same across the region. Many roadways will become slick with dangerous travel conditions expected Wednesday. Road conditions will gradually improve during the afternoon as temperatures warm into the low 30s and the sun begins to break through the clouds. Frigid conditions return Wednesday night with wind chill values dropping into the single digits in Charlotte with wind chill values as cold as -15° in the mountains. Any snow that briefly melts Wednesday afternoon will refreeze Wednesday night, black ice will be an issue through Thursday mornings commute. Sunshine and warmer temperatures will begin to melt the snow Thursday, highs in the 40s. Gradually warming temperatures and dry conditions are expected Friday through the weekend with highs soaring back into the 60s by Sunday afternoon.
