YORK COUNTY, S.C. — The funeral for York County Detective Michael R. Doty will be held at Calvary Church, located at 5801 Pineville Matthews Road, on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. Motorists should expect delays and heavier than normal traffic while traveling in the area of Pineville-Matthews Road and Rea Road.
Those planning on attending the funeral should plan to access the church via the second entrance to the church, located on Rea Road just south of the intersection with Pineville-Matthews Road.
Doty and several other officers were ambushed while searching for a domestic violence suspect last week.
Sunday, family, friends and fellow officers honored Doty at New Outreach Christian Center. The Pastor there says this is a time to honor all first respondents.
Detective Doty will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill this afternoon.
The funeral procession for Detective Doty will be leaving Calvary Church at approximately 1:15 p.m. The procession will travel south on Rea Road to the I-485 Interchange. The procession will then transition onto the I-485 Inner loop heading west and then to I-77 southbound to South Carolina. Rea Road, I-485 Inner loop, and I-77 southbound will experience road closures during this time and are expected to have a moderate impact on travel in the south Charlotte area. Please plan ahead if traveling in this area during this time.
