CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a man was fatally struck by a train in west Charlotte.
Investigators say the accident happened just after 9:30am on South Hoskins Road at Rozzelles Ferry Road. 56-year-old Richard Brown was found lying next to the train when officers arrived, and pronounced dead on the scene.
Police say Brown appears to have walked around the lowered crossing arms and into the path of the train prior to the accident. Surveillance video shows the train sounding the horn and bell for a l0ng period of time, according to investigators, as it approached the intersection.
The train was running about 12mph when it struck Brown, and was immediately placed in emergency stop mode after the impact.
Investigators say alcohol impairment appears to have been a contributing factor on the part of Brown. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
