Rain chances rise, warm through Wednesday
Highs rise near 70Β° in the Queen City over the next two afternoons, but a major cold snap arrives by Thanksgiving Day.
We’re just two days away from Thanksgiving, but Mother Nature’s oven continues to bake the Carolinas this Tuesday afternoon as highs surge near 70Β° once again in the Queen City. The above-average temperatures continue despite increasing cloud cover and rain chances as an expansive storm system approaches from the west. Scattered showers and thunderstorms sweep into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area this afternoon and continue, off and on, through the overnight hours. While there is no severe threat today nor tomorrow, a few of these incoming storms may generate some loud thunder and wind gusts approaching 30 mph.
A few showers may linger into the early morning hours on Wednesday, but most of the moisture will be swept eastward by sunrise as a cold front slices through the Metro. Highs will return to the mid-to-lower 70s across the Piedmont and Foothills Wednesday afternoon, but temperatures will be in freefall by the evening as stiff northwesterly breezes take hold. Lows dip into the 20s and 30s as we wake up Thanksgiving morning; make sure to bundle up as you head into Uptown for the Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade on Wednesday night. Highs will struggle to clear 50Β° between Thanksgiving Thursday and Saturday as hard freezes settle in across the board for our Friday and Saturday mornings. Scattered rain chances return to the forecast by Sunday afternoon, but most of the holiday weekend appears dry for now.
