Troopers: Medical condition leads to fatal Catawba County crash

HICKORY, N.C. — Troopers say a driver suffered a medical condition prior to a fatal crash in Catawba County.

The accident happened on Sunday, November 30th just after 5:30pm on 12th Avenue Drive, according to a news release.

Troopers say Uribe Enedino crashed into a parked vehicle and utility pole after reportedly driving through a stop sign on 12th Avenue Drive, according to a news release.

Authorities say the initial investigation indicates Enedino had a medical condition before the crash which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

The following information was released by NC Highway Patrol:

  • Driver: Uribe Enedino, 68, of Conover, died from his injuries at the scene of the collision
  • Front seat passenger, Jose Uribe, 21, of Conover, was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries
  • Back seat passenger, Rosa Uribe, 28, of Conover, was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries, she was not wearing her seatbelt.

The roadway was partially closed for 2 hours while troopers conducted the on scene investigation.
