Applebee’s Fires Employees After Racial Profiling Accusations Go Viral
Two women say they were wrongfully accused of dining and ditching at an Applebee’s in Missouri.
Now the restaurant chain has fired three employees for racial profiling, including the manager who called the police.
The two African American women were halfway through lunch when an officer approached their table.
He told them a waitress was ‘almost positive’ the two women had walked out without paying for a meal the night before.
But the women repeatedly insisted that they had never set foot in the restaurant before that day.
One of the women recorded the interaction with her phone and posted it to Facebook.
More than 3 million people have viewed her post.
In the post she wrote that she learned the server who accused her and her friend of the crime remembered only the suspects were two girls: one who was skinny and one who wore makeup.
Applebee’s apologized to the women and temporarily closed that particular restaurant to re-train the staff.
