MATTHEWS, N.C. – Beginning Friday morning, drivers will be able to use the new Weddington Road interchange in Matthews, built as part of the I-485 express lanes projectΒ to add an express lane and deliver additional corridor improvements between I-77 and U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard).
Contract crews will remove barricades and traffic control around 10 a.m., which could take up to an hour. Drivers should be mindful of crews working in this location and allow extra time to reach their destination.
Minor work will continue in the vicinity like installing the traffic signal at Fincher Farm Road and other punch list items.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is working with the prime contractor, Blythe Construction, to open the express lanes in the project corridor by the end of next month. Other punch list work will continue into the spring before the entire project achieves final completion.
