Pineville P.D. Investigating Following Officer-Involved Shooting At Attempted Traffic Stop

PINEVILLE, N.C. — The Pineville Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting during an attempted traffic stop Sunday morning.

Police say an officer attempted to make am impaired driving stop on Highway 51 in Pineville around 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

Officers say the driver did not stop for blue lights and tried to run over other officers helping with the traffic stop.

One of the officers fired his weapon as the suspect drove toward him.  The suspect was uninjured by the gunfire and continued to drive down Highway 51 before turning onto Centrum Parkway, where he overturned his vehicle.

The suspect was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main and treated for injuries suffered in the crash.

Authorities say the suspect’s South Carolina driver’s license was revoked and witness statements indicate he was intoxicated.

The suspect’s identity has not been released, as the investigation continues and charges are pending.

The S.B.I. is also investigating the incident.
