Woman charged in fatal hit and run in east Charlotte

A woman is facing charges after allegedly running a red light and killing a pedestrian at an intersection in east Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

It happened around 5:45 p.m. on The Plaza near East 36th Street.

Upon arrival, officers located 25-year-old Lance Sotelo severely injured in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver, 28-year-old Q’Laundra Hood, ran a red light and struck Sotelo before fleeing the scene southwest on The Plaza.

Hood turned herself in on Thursday. She has been charged with hit and run, involuntary manslaughter, no operator’s license, and failing to stop at a red light.

Speed is suspected to be a factor, but impairment is unknown for Hood, police said.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Simmons at 704-432-2169 ext. 3.
