Driver Charged In Deadly Accident On Old Statesville Road

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD has identified the 81-year-old woman killed in an accident Monday afternoon on Old Statesville Road.

Police say Eudean Knox was killed just before 2pm at the intersection of Old Statesville Road and the on ramp to the I-485 outer loop in north Charlotte. Knox was riding with 62-year-old Curtis Thompson when the accident occurred.

 

According to investigators, Thompson was speeding towards the I-485 outer loop ramp when his 2000 Chevrolet S-10 collided with a 2014 Honda Pilot, driven by Mitchell Jones, 64. Police say Jones was attempting to turn left onto 485 when they hit.

Knox was pronounced dead on the scene. Thompson was not wearing a seat belt, according to police, and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Jones was wearing a seat belt, and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

CMPD says Jones was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way.

Thompson has been charged with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle.

Police say impairment was not a contributing factor for either driver involved. The investigation is ongoing.
