FBI Director Patel arrives in Charlotte for handoff of wanted fugitive to CMPD

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – FBI Director Kash Patel paid a visit to Charlotte on Friday to announce one of the agency’s most wanted fugitives, Alex Castillo, is now behind bars in Mecklenburg County. Patel was joined by several law enforcement officials, including CMPD Chief Estella Patterson, as Castillo was walked off the plane.

He was wanted for nearly a decade for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Sandy Le, back in 2016. Officials say Castillo fled to Mexico after the murder, and was finally caught in Mexico. Patel says, “I’m so proud to be back here in Charlotte and handing this fugitive over to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, where he belongs. And he will be prosecuted here to the fullest extent of the law.”

Sandy Le was just 23-years-old when she was killed.
