Rock Hill man charged with murder in 2016 cold case
ROCK HILL, S.C. – A Rock Hill man was arrested Tuesday in connection to the 2016 murder of Walter Faile, the Rock Hill Police Department announced.
Faile was found dead with multiple blunt force injuries and stab wounds inside his apartment on Hutchinson Street in Rock Hill on July 7, 2016. The investigation into Faile’s death was later deemed a cold case after no new leads or updates.
Detectives assigned to the case recently took another look at the evidence and identified 51-year-old Paul Ray Craig Jr., of Rock Hill, as a suspect.
Craig’s DNA and fingerprints were found on objects believed to be used to hit Faile, police said.
Craig was arrested on Jan. 27, 2026 and was charged with murder. He was denied bond for his charge.
The Rock Hill Police Department is currently investigating 18 cold case homicides. Anyone with information on any unsolved cases is asked to contact the Rock Hill Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 803-329-7293.
