Dangerous driving conditions leads to 3 crashes in Gastonia

The Gastonia Police Department is asking citizens to stay off the roads as the snow storm continues to drastically impact driving conditions.

Police responded to three crashes Saturday morning. One car crashed into a small brick wall on Redbud Drive. Another car hit a shopping center sign on South New Hope Road near Redbud Drive.

The third crash was a three-car collision on Redbud Drive.

No one was injured in any of the three crashes. Still, police are asking citizens to stay off the road, if possible.

“We strongly encourage everyone to stay home and off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary,” the police department said. “If you must drive: Slow down and increase following distance, Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns, Watch for ice on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas, Treat intersections without power as a 4-way stop.”

Snow continues to fall across the Charlotte area. Forecasts predict at least 4-7 inches with some areas possible to get 8+ inches.
