Man Arrested For Trespassing On Secured Airport Property

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they arrested a man for trespassing at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

A pilot initially spotted George Simental near the airport perimeter fence at the south end of the airport near a fire station.  Police immediately responded to the area.

Upon the officers arrival, Simental was on the public side of the fence and told police he was homeless and was trying to travel to Tennessee.  He said he was dropped off near the airport.

Based on evidence at the scene, police determined Simental entered the airport’s secured perimeter prior to officers arrival.  He was arrested for trespassing on airport property and taken to jail.

Police say they contacted federal authorities but they do not believe Simental posed a threat to the public.
