CHARLESTON, SC — The man who confessed to murdering nine people inside an historic black church in Charleston will be arraigned on federal hate crime charges Monday.

A federal grand jury indicted Dylann Roof on dozens of charges Wednesday.  Roof told investigators he opened fire inside Emanuel AME Church last month because he wanted to start a race war.

A well-known anti-death penalty attorney has been appointed to represent Roof.  David Bruck most recently co-defended Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

He also defended Susan Smith, the South Carolina woman who drowned her young sons back in 1995.
