CHARLOTTE, NC — Panthers Linebacker Thomas Davis announced on Twitter today that he tested positive for a substance banned by the NFL.
Davis made the announcement in a heartfelt video posted to his Twitter account Friday evening. In the video, he says he has not and would never do “anything to intentionally cheat the game” or create a competitive edge over another player.
The Panthers star linebacker says he has taken the same supplement for roughly 8 years and has never had an issue with testing. He says he has never tested positive for any banned substances like steroids or HTH, and the supplement that triggered the positive test in this case was an estrogen blocker.
Davis apologized to fans and the organization, but says his “conscience is clear in this situation.”
The NFL has suspended Davis for four games in the upcoming season. Davis previously announced that next season would be his last, but now says he isn’t so sure.
