PATRICK, SC — Crews are still trying to contain a brush fire that got out of hand Friday afternoon in Chesterfield County.
Officials say the fire started as a 27 acre controlled burn on McQueen Road, but, due to high winds, quickly spread to roughly 200 acres. The fire has engulfed numerous mature pines throughout the area, and is traveling from tree top to tree top.
Officials say several homes in the area have also been threatened by the fire, but non have burned.
Nearly a dozen forestry service units, more than five bull dozers, and several local fire departments are working to contain the fire on multiple fronts.
Crews say weather conditions are improving and winds are dying down, but the fire has still yet to be contained.
